NDIS PARTICIPANTS – SELF AND PLAN MANAGED
Trauma informed care is based on the understanding that
- a significant number of people living with disabilities and/or mental health conditions have experienced trauma in their lives
- trauma may be a factor for people in distress
- the impact of trauma may be lifelong
What are trauma informed capacity building practices?
Trauma informed capacity building practices acknowledge the neurological impacts of trauma (physical, psychological, emotional, complex), and the high instances of survivors experiencing a disconnection from their physical bodies.
This approach is people-centred and explorative.
The focus is on what is felt, noticing the sensations, and learning to make choices that begin to rebuild trust between body and mind.
Every Felt Sense provides the following online trauma-informed capacity building practices:
- Yoga
- Pilates
- Personal Training
- Dance
- Nervous System Regulation
- Breathwork
Over time, trauma informed capacity building practices can help participants:
- regulate their nervous system
- reduce and better manage anxiety
- improve body awareness and tolerance for physical sensations
- increase psychological flexibility
This in turn can help participants:
- build confidence
- feel more comfortable in public
- feel safer to participate in community activities
- increase independence.
Quote from ndis.gov.au
“Where there are disability-related barriers to taking part in daily life activities and achieving your goals due to the functional impairment related to your disability, then the NDIA may consider support to help you to reach your goals and enjoy participating in a range of activities like others do. Meaning if the yoga classes assist you to reach your goals of social participation or independence, your NDIS plan may be used to access the additional assistance you may need so you can take part in yoga classes.”
