Meet Soph (she/her)

In 2019 I completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training, which was the beginning of my yoga journey. After this I began working with a yoga studio and assisting on another four 200hr YTTs. In this time I also completed 150 hours of Yin Teacher Training, with specific focus on variable anatomy: understanding that all our bodies are made and function in different ways, due to our different skeletons and anatomy.

Alongside teaching yoga, I have been completing my Bachelor of Social Work, I am in my final year. I also currently work in the Out of Home Care and Foster Care space. I have been drawn to understanding trauma and its impacts from quite an early age, and as I delved into my Social Work degree, and working alongside Kathy, the cogs really began to turn. I started to understand how harmful the assumptions we have in the yoga world, as well as greater society, are for those who have impacted nervous systems, trauma, and different lived experiences. As I learnt more about trauma-informed approaches, and later implemented them into my yoga, my work and my life, I realised that I could never go back. It is my belief that everyone should implement a trauma-informed approach to how they live each day, in order to reduce the harm we have on others, in order to be truly inclusive and in order to create spaces where people are able to access safety and perhaps even the benefits of different practices.

In my spare time I love listening to live music, laying out in the sun, and spending time with the people who fill my cup.
